    History

The Sermons and Lucas Family Reunion was first held on July 28-31, 1996 at Rocky Hill Church of God in Christ in Mineola, Georgia.  Reunions have been held annually and bi-annually since that time.

The Sermons and Lucas Family Reunion honors the memory of the late Henry and Eliza Sermons.  According to the National & Georgia archives, Henry Sermons was born in Lowndes County, Georgia (1844). Census records taken in the late 1800's stated he was married to the former Eliza Hall.  They were parents to twelve children.  Eight sons were named James (Jim), Henry Jr., Thomas, Simmie (Sammie), John (Johnnie), Jenious (Jinnus), Joshua, and Hubbard.  Four daughters were named, Idella (Della), Hattie, Willie, and Lola.

The Sermons and Lucas families were intertwined by marriages between offspring from both lineages, creating a family circle of enduring love, strength and unity.  The annual and bi-annual reunion is a gathering of descendants to honor and celebrate the family unit, establishing a legacy of love that we know as the Sermons and Lucas Family Reunion.
